MHS Charity Fashion Show

The fourth annual charity fashion show at Montgomery High School will be held March 12 at 7 pm in the Montgomery High School Center for the Performing Arts in Skillman, N.J. The students will be raising funds to help Greg Mortenson's human rights efforts to provide education for girls and promote peace in Central Asia. Greg Mortenson is the author of the best seller Three Cups of Tea.

"Project" To Perform at RVCC Theatre

8 pm, The Theatre at Raritan Valley Community College will present a performance by the chamber ensemble PROJECT. The performance is part of the Theatre's Major Artists Series. Tickets cost $25 each.


PROJECT excites audiences with energy and innovative style. Graduates of the Cleveland Institute of Music, PROJECT musicians Greg Pattillo, Eric Stephenson and Peter Seymour have played with such prestigious groups as the Cleveland Symphony, Aspen Festival Orchestra and the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra. American Repertory Ballet, New Jersey’s premier contemporary ballet company, is kicking off its 2010 spring season with Graham Lustig’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream at The Theatre at Raritan Valley Community College in North Branch, NJ Saturday March 20th 2010. The performance will also feature Kirk Peterson’s lighthearted romp, Roses and Clover. The company is scheduled to perform a special Educational Matinee performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream on March 19th at 11 am for students Kindergarten through 5th grade at the venue.
 


Fruit Tree Pruning Class---Terhune Orchards

Gary Mount, owner of Terhune Orchards, 330 Cold Soil Road, Lawrence Township, is offering a free pruning class in his orchards on Saturday, March 20th at 1 pm. (rain or shine).

Mr. Mount will explain how he prunes and answer questions right out in the orchards. He will also discuss new varieties of fruit trees suitable for planting by the homeowner and the difference between various rootstocks.

Everyone is welcome, Saturday, March 20th at 1pm. The class will be held rain or shine. Terhune Orchards’ own cider and donuts will be served as refreshments. Leonard Preston, chief of labor market information for the New Jersey State Data Center (NJSDC), will provide an overview of the history and relevance of the U.S. Census in his talk, “Countdown to the 2010 U.S. Census,” on Wednesday, March 24 at Mercer County Community College. Preston’s presentation takes place at 12 noon in the Communications Building, CM 109, on MCCC’s West Windsor campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road. Bee Aware @ Mary Jacobs Library

Spring is here but where are the honey bees? Jennifer Bulava, Park Naturalist for the Burlington County Park System, is coming to the library on April 15 at 7 pm to share with us the mystery of the disappearing honey bees. This informative presentation will detail their serious decline known as colony collapse disorder, a phenomenon in which worker bees abruptly vanish from the colony. The resulting implications of the absence of these precious pollinators of fruits and vegetables for our food supply and society will be examined.


Handouts will be provided with valuable information on how individuals can make a difference starting with their home and garden. This two hour program, free and open to the public, is for adults and we ask that you pre-register by calling 609-924-7073 x4 or by emailing cwillis@sclsnj.org .
 


Children Travel the World at Mary Jacobs Library

Children in grades K-2 can travel the world with a new library program, World Travelers. This month we will travel around the globe to the vast country of China on Thursday, April 15 from 4:30-5:15 pm. The Neshanic Garden Club will host its popular Spring Luncheon fundraiser on April 22, 2010, 12 noon, at the Harlingen Reformed Church, Harlingen Road and Route 206 South, Belle Mead, NJ.
The program, "Mixed Borders: Annuals & Perennials" will be given by Bruce Crawford, Director of Rutgers Gardens. Bruce is a graduate of Bucknell University and is an adjunct professor in the Landscape Architecture Department at Rutgers and at the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. More then 200 students from Orchard Hill, Village and the Middle Schools are preparing for the First Annual MONTGOMERY’S GOT TALENT Variety Show at Montgomery High School on April 23rd and 30th from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Joining the students on stage will be High School Seniors Annie Herman and Rachel Kalb as the shows emcees.

Free Oral and Skin Cancer Screenings

PRINCETON, NJ -- The Cancer Program at University Medical Center at Princeton is offering two free cancer screenings to the community in May.

An oral cancer screening will be conducted Thursday, May 6, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the UMCP Clinic, located at 253 Witherspoon St., Suite B in the Medical Arts Building.

A skin cancer screening will be held on Thursday, May 20, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the UMCP Clinic, 253 Witherspoon St., Suite B in the Medical Arts Building. This screening will conducted by board certified dermatologists on the PHCS medical staff, and is also by appointment.

May in Old Montgomery: A Tour of Historic Rocky Hill Homes

11 a.m. - 4 p.m. for the return of popular May in Montgomery, the main fund-raising event of the Van Harlingen Historical Society. This year's event will feature several charming 19th century houses reflecting a variety of architeture and interior design. The emphasis is on old Montgomery as, indeed, Rocky Hill was part of Montgomery Township until it ceded from the municipality and became a separately governed borough in 1890. Plans are also in the works to accentuate other aspects of Rocky Hill. Tickets are $20 or $18 if purchased in advance. More information about tickets and the event will be forthcoming.
