PDS Presents "Past Looking Forward" - Works by Charles Bryan and Diana Weymar

On view from January 8 through February 1, 2018

The Anne Reid '72 Art Gallery at Princeton Day School is pleased to present "Past Looking Forward" featuring the work of artists Charles Bryan and Diana Weymar, and on view from January 8 through February 1, 2018. There will be an artists' reception on Friday, January 12 from 12:30 to 1:00 p.m. The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public.

"Past Looking Forward" explores the personal narratives of two accomplished artists working in different mediums. Charles Bryan uses oil on canvas to portray his personal stories and assimilate cultural history. He cites the strong influence of the Renaissance masters on his work and notes, "Working in a traditional painting style and median and rendering artworks that reflect my life experiences and perceptions makes my works sincere in purpose.... I believe it was Matisse who argued that to be a good artist, the art should reflect the time of one's life." Charles Bryan's work beautifully echoes our world and helps us to understand our social values and cultural history.

Diana Weymar's studio work is based in the traditions of writing, text, textile, handmade objects, and storytelling. She is the creator of Interwoven Stories, a community textile project developed during her Anne Reeves Artist-in-Residency at The Arts Council of

Princeton. Initially a small project, the project grew in Princeton, and has now traveled to the University of Puget Sound, the Nantucket Athenaeum, the Peddie School, Zen Hospice Project (San Francisco), and Build Peace Bogota, Columbia. She has worked on community-based projects in Cyprus, Switzerland, and Canada in addition to Interwoven Stories.

"Past Looking Forward" featuring the photography of Charles Bryan and Diana Weymar is open to the public from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, when the school is in session and by appointment on weekends.
